Admission Requirements:
RN to BS Nursing Option

In order to be considered for admission and in accordance with the Maryland RN to BSN Articulation Model, 30 nursing credits will be awarded to the registered nurse with an active, unencumbered Maryland Nursing license upon enrollment into the RN to BS Option. No challenge exams are required. Additionally, registered nurse students must have the following:

  • Grade point average (GPA) of 2.8 or higher
  • Two professional recommendations, completed by a supervisor and a nursing peer
  • Proof of current liability insurance coverage
  • Evidence of CPR certification
  • Evidence of current health insurance
  • Substantiation of adherence to the Nursing Division's health requirements

Only grades of a C or better may be accepted as transfer credits. All transfer credits must be approved by the Registrar's Office. Credit for prior learning may be awarded on a case-by-case basis. Students with a minimum cumulative GPA of less than 2.8 may be accepted to the RN to BS option on a provisional basis, with the condition that within one year, their cumulative GPA would be 2.8. Students are encouraged to apply to the RN to BS Option while still enrolled at his/her community college or nursing school.

Admission Procedures

  • Arrange for an interview with Katie Schwienteck, the RN to BS Advisor, by calling 443-352-4243.
  • Request official transcripts from all colleges, universities, and nursing programs attended. You may bring them unopened with you to the interview or have them sent to:

  • Complete the application as directed and bring it to the interview or mail it to the University, unless the application was completed online. Applications for RN to BS students will be accepted until August 1 for the fall semester and February 1 for the spring semester.
  • Those accepted to the Nursing Program will receive information regarding registration, advising, and other enrollment procedures, as well as information about health requirements. The academic advisor will assist with course registration.
