The CIS major is designed for the student who is interested in pursuing a technical career in support of organizations. Employers are seeking highly skilled technology professionals who know how to utilize technology to improve the organization's competitive edge.

The CIS major begins with a solid foundation of core courses in programming, network, and database design. These classes are designed to give students an understanding of the field and prepare them to make career decisions.

With this foundation, CIS majors choose to pursue one of the following in-depth, career-focused tracks:

BS/MS OPTION FOR COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS MAJORS

Students majoring in CIS with a 3.0 GPA can complete both a bachelor's and a master's degree in as few as five years by applying for admission to the BS/MS Option during the first semester of their junior year.

Students majoring in other fields may consider a minor in Computer Information Systems. Check with the Information Systems division director for more information on creating a minor.

  Did you know?

As a CIS major, you can complete a Co-Op to earn money while you gain valuable job experience. Most Co-Op students earn $10-$18 per hour. CIS and BIS majors can also participate in unpaid internships, for which academic credit is earned.

What can you do with this degree?
Many graduates of the CIS program continue their education by pursuing a master's degree in Business & Technology Management or Advanced Information Technologies. Others enter the working world to pursue jobs as computer hardware engineers, systems analysts, database administrators, or computer network architects.
